Teak Garden Furniture

Decorating your backyard or porch can be just as challenging but rewarding as any interior decorating job. When getting the right garden furniture for your little patch of green, the objective is often less about getting the same comfortable set of furnishings as you have inside but more on the practical utilitarian side.  Your garden set should be practical enough to weather the elements to which they will be exposed to.  And they should be functional enough to make you want to stay in your backyard and enjoy your few minutes of communing with Mother Nature.  Here are some of the considerations that can determine our choice of garden furniture.

Will it rust, develop mildews and molds when exposed to rain or snow?

Ordinary furniture will, but when properly treated, it won’t.  Wrought or cast iron furniture are often coated to make them rust-proof and you only need to re-coat them after years of use once you start to see some signs of rusting.  On the other hand, unpainted teak wood are naturally resistant to weather erosion and are the best natural wood materials for outdoor furniture.

Will it crack with changing weather and sun exposure?

Again, ordinary furniture will, but with the right treatment, garden furniture made of wood need not suffer cracking or material expansion and contraction under changing climes. They can, however suffer some discoloration, often fading out or losing their natural grain definition, if made of real wood. 

Will it blown away at the slightest gush of wind?

If it’s made of plastic or wicker, your garden chair or table will surely be light enough for a strong gust of win to carry it clear across your garden and possibly cause harm or damage.  If you decide to go plastic for your outdoor furniture, it is best to get them a fixed to the ground, or go for the stackable or foldable type you can handily stow indoors. 

Will it stand frequent use?

There are patio or outdoor furniture sets meant for the homes and there are those meant for hotels, sidewalk cafes and resorts which can be made-to-order types.  Commercial grade furniture are more robust and consequently more expensive but because of volume, often in the hundreds for a hotel or resort, the unit price becomes small. Aluminum strap or sling patio furniture are two excellent choices that can fit any budget, whether for the home or for commercial use.  Resin outdoor furniture is another great choice often preferred in hotels and resorts as they require the least maintenance and are weatherproof and inexpensive.
