Cheap Garden Furniture Doesn’t Mean Cheap Quality

Cheap Garden Furniture Doesn’t Mean Cheap Quality

Just like any consumer product in the market, you get what you pay for.  It’s generally true, but only if you don’t know the right places where to max out your purchasing power.  Going cheap on anything doesn’t always mean settling for goods of shabby quality.  It’s really a matter of getting the best value for your money.

In the area of home furnishings and interior decorating, there are so much more opportunities to do just that.  There are thrift shops, flea markets, second-hand or pre-owned markets, heavily discounted display products, and even reproduction antiques that can deliver excellent value for the money.  With garden furniture, you don’t even need to get a well-crafted, well polished furniture set only to be exposed to the weathering elements.  Outdoor furniture options are almost always in the province of practicality and functionality, more than aesthetics or luxury.

Go Second Hand

Even your neighbor’s garage sale can be an excellent source for outdoor furnishings.  You can also thumb through broadsheet classified ads where some wealthy families and households dispose their old and used garden furniture to make room for new ones.   The second hand market, if you know what to look for, for as long as they’re not junk, can be a real source for bargains.  Furniture made of solid hard wood rarely ever get so abused that the wear and tear becomes unacceptable.  While used upholstered sofas and chairs are sure to show these signs, solid teak garden furniture and those made of wrought cast iron without any upholstered parts are sure to wear gracefully.  The worst they can suffer from as discoloration in the finish or chipped paints which can easily be corrected.

Apart from neighborhood garage sales, there are flea markets in downtown sections of the city where furniture shops that allow customers to haggle to bring prices down are everywhere.   In addition, keep your attention up on end-season sale in malls and furniture stores which are in the habit of reducing prices by as much as 70% on old furniture.  Garden furniture need not be the latest or the most modern set in your house.

Go Craiglist

You can go online to check Craiglist which is a central network of various online forums that comprise what is essentially an online classified ads.  There’s always a posting from people who want to dispose of stuff they no longer need and outdoor furniture can easily be one of them.  Some postings can contain pictures but if you come across something you are interested in, you can always send an email to the poster and request for pictures or a more detailed information about what they are selling.
